Make Something out of Nothing

The best art piece/installation this year; 2013; for me has been by Mc Nabb & Co
The City Series is a collection of wood sculptures that represent a woodworker's journey from the suburbs to the city.
Made entirely of scrap wood, this work is an interpretation of making something out of nothing. The result is a collection of architectural forms, each distinctly different from the next.

* All work is copyright Mc Nabb&Co
Making something out of nothing : what a wonderful thought to end the year by and start a fabulous New Year.
Wishing you a Happy New Year and all that's good, happy, fun and healthy in 2014.

Pantone Color of the Year 2014

So Pantone recently announced the Color of the Year 2014
Its Radiant Orchid - 18-3224 TPX.
I cannot say its my favorite..I would have loved a fiery Orange. But then if I were to choose, it would be fiery Orange every year…

Ambiente Trends 2014

Ambiente just released the new trends for the year 2014 and top of that list is

Stunning Temper

An imaginative, whimsical, cheerful palette. Monochromes with a mix of imaginative patterns lend a surreal appeal to the surroundings

Subtle Spirit

This theme is more about craftsmanship and harmony. Lights and accessories lend an Asian touch to the theme

Serene Nature

Serene Nature celebrates the magic of the pristine. Natural materials and a smooth transition between the indoor and the outdoors*

*You might recollect that I had spotted this trend emerging last year when I had written about how the outdoors are the new indoors. Check out the old post right here

Striking mind

Striking mind is all about clearcut lines, strong graphics, 3 dimensional shapes and a play of strong monochromes

Where India met Sweden...

When I'm walking the streets and looking for something fantastic to catch my eye or to inspire me, I know of place that never fails me--Gudrun Sjöden. She has stores all over the world but the one I lurk around is at Lilla Torg here in Malmö. The colours dance through her shop windows and the patterns are mesmerising.
I can see where India met Sweden long time ago...

Before Pantone..

So while I was designing in India some 12 years back, access to pantone was limited to only a few. Only those 'few' who could afford the fancy book of colours. But then what did we use back then--
The magical yarn book called the Neelam Thread Card
Last month when I was in India I picked one of these and gosh do I love it more than Pantone..

Ferm Living - New Catalogue.

Ferm Living's new catalogue is out and what can I say---Its visually a delight! Its simplistic, clean and exquisite in its form. The products well-displayed and its inspiring just to leaf through the catalogue.

Its a designer's dream to be a part of Ferm. Atleast its mine, there I said it.

Kekacases and Simi Design

My collection for Kekacases is now avaliable.

The Journey : It has been really a wonderful experience designing for Kekacases; a company that makes Ipad and Kindle cases handcrafted in San Francisco. They use traditional binding techniques which is what makes a Keka Case unique. Using eco friendly inks, they start by printing the designs onto a vinyl, which is also used for race cars! Then they add a cast overlaminate to make the case resist water, stains and tears. Then they take the vinyl and warp it around recycled book boards. Fascinating eh ?

Some of my design avaliable at Kekacases :
